There is a particular shade of Watsonia species that grow atop Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa. For those still in doubt that nature 'does not do neons'...this is evidence that indeed it does. Watsonia Tabularis produces hot pink salmon blooms - sometimes flower spikes are as tall as shoulder height - and varying in degrees of intensity depending on sunbleached age or soil variation. Nevertheless, I am struck by the colour of this flower on our mountain hikes... which never captures accurately on a photograph...they glow in real life!
